eBay Is A Great Reference For Collectible Fishing Tackle Values

Using the ?Completed listings? feature on eBay allows antique fishing tackle collectors find real information on what vintage fishing reels, lures and rods have actually sold for under auction conditions.

With the increase in demand and values for collectible fishing tackle, including vintage lures, rods and reels, many new collectors struggle with determining the value of their finds. When I am asked to appraise collectible any fishing tackle, my first advice is always to start with the ?Completed listings? feature on eBay, as it is a great free tool for determining the value of similar collectibles that have sold on eBay in the last 30 days.

To use eBay?s Completed Listings feature, first type in the item that you want to value in the search box at the top of the page. On the left hand column check the box for ?Completed listings? and finish by clicking search at the top of the page. The result is a list of all items that match your search criteria which have auctions that have ended within the last 30 days.

Because the Completed listings feature only searches titles, not descriptions or listing bodies, it is usually helpful to make the search phrase broader than you would when searching for active auctions. For example ?Ambassadeur 5000? will produce better results than ?Ambassadeur 5000 in box?. In this case the words "in box" might only appear in the listing body.

Compare the results to your collectible reel, rod or lure, noting the following:

? Did the completed item actually sell? If it did not hit reserve, or had no bids then the information is considerably less reliable.

? What was the condition of the collectible fishing tackle listed compared to yours? Condition is absolutely critical. Unless the rod, reel or lure is very rare, then the difference between pristine and very lightly used can make a dramatic difference in value. New collectors often overlook tiny scratches and wear marks that ding value. Make sure that you look carefully at the listing photographs to determine condition.

? Is there a box? Some of the boxes in my extensive collection of vintage Swedish fishing reels are more valuable than the reels inside. The same rules of condition apply to boxes. The same applies for instruction paperwork and other "goodies that would have been original to the boxed item.

? Is the model exactly like yours, and of the same age? A slightly different model reel, rod or lure might have significantly higher production runs, impacting value.

? Was the bid volume heavy? Greater numbers of bidders generally means that the sales price is more reliable. If there are only 1 or 2 bidders you have to guess as to whether there is a strong market for your collectible item.

Although not perfect, eBay's Completed listings feature is a great appraisal tool. It works best on collectible fishing tackle items that have had several recent sales. For extremely rare pieces, sales prices can vary wildly depending on how many heavyweight collectors were on line during the time that the auction was live. I have always preferred this "real life" appraisal system rather than a book value that can be months or years out of date in a volatile marketplace.

The bottom line is that there is a wealth of free collectible fishing tackle information on eBay. Take advantage of it, but before making a large expenditure check several sources rather than trusting in one "expert" opinion.

Women and Fishing -- Not Just A Man's Sport

More and more women are learning to enjoy fishing each and every day. And, why not? Fishing is a sport that doesnt require exceptional strength, stamina or height quite the contrary, fishing is a sport of agility, finesse and patience, skills many women already possess. So why dont more women fish?

Successful fishing requires knowledge of various types of fishing gear, tackle, and an understanding of the quarry. Fish have a variety of feeding habits, behavioral patterns, etc. and these characteristics influence how to go about fishing for them.

Traditionally, men learned how to fish when they were boys from fathers and grandfathers. Even if this training was lacking, its no big deal for a guy to hang out with other guys who enjoy fishing and learn the ropes from them.

For a woman, though, the process is apt to be somewhat more difficult. In my family of all girls, we learned the thrill of fishing as children from our father. Fortunately for us, our dad was an equal-opportunity fisherman...and he was a very patient man.

We learned to bait our own hooks, remove fish from the line, and clean the fish as well. We were rewarded with many an enjoyable Sunday on the lake competing for top family fishing honors of who caught the most and the biggest fish.

For women who werent brought up fishing as I was, all is certainly not lost. Although learning from a boyfriend or spouse is not out of the question, a significant other may not be the best place to get your first fishing pointers.

Your honey may not have the patience that you will need to learn proper fishing technique and he may be a bit condescending as wellnot exactly conducive to an enjoyable learning experience.

Try instead local womens fishing clubs. Check online for groups in your area that are specifically organized by and for women. Many groups are primarily centered on fly-fishing but not all are.

Also see if your community college or local university offers any fishing courses. Often fishing classes are offered in the adult education, physical education or recreation departments.

Of course, you can also start at your local library, checking out books on fishing and learning a few basic techniques that way.

Your local fishing outfitter or marina may have more information as well and would also be a good place for information and to network with other fishing women.

Another option is to go online and search for websites catering to women and the outdoors or, more specifically, women and fishing. One such website is ladiesletsgofishing.

Founded by Betty Bauman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1997, LLGF promotes networking among women anglers and emphasizes mentorship between novice and experienced members.

Other groups, both national and state, promote fishing for women. There are seminars, fishing adventures and special fishing events scheduled year-round in many areas of the country which are organized especially for women anglers.

Yet another reason fishing is a great hobby for women is because beginning your fishing experiences need not be prohibitively expensive. Especially when compared to other hobbies, start-up costs for spin or bait-casting fishing equipment are not tremendously high. Generally speaking, $200 or less can buy more than enough basic quality fishing gear for a beginner to get started. To start up a fly-fishing hobby will cost a bit more as the gear tends to be more expensive.

This, of course, doesnt include a boat! But, many fishing locations can be reached without a boat. Again, do your research to find areas accessible by car.

More women should consider fishing for an enjoyable and challenging hobby. Learning the basics of fishing is easy but perfecting those angling skills can take many hours of sometimes peaceful and sometimes extremely exciting time at the other end of a line.

Carrying Water While Fishing

Carrying water while fishing can be quite a chore. If you've ever had the pleasure, as I have, of stuffing bottles of water into every extra pocket of your fishing vest just to make sure that you have enough water with you, you know what I'm talking about. Having to do this can be a pain in the butt. Not only are water bottles bulky, if you're going to be out fishing for a while, it's difficult to carry enough water with you.

The answer to this problem is a hydration pack. What's that? A hydration pack is a small bladder that you carry on your back that carries water inside of it. It is so much more convenient than carrying bottles of water it's not even funny.

Hydration packs are small and lightweight as well. You can literally "wear" your water on your back, under your fishing vest. Hydration packs have been used my cyclists for years and were originally designed for the military, so they could eliminate bulky canteens. Hydration packs are the reason people can peddle a bike for 100 miles without having to stop for water.

The great thing about hydration packs is that they aren't very expensive either. As anglers, we don't need to carry gallons and gallons of water with us. The equivalent of 5 or 6 bottles of water will serve the average angler well. And these small hydration packs are extremely affordable.

That's right folks the dilemma of carrying enough water while fishing is no longer a dilemma. Leave the bottles of water in your cooler and give a hydration pack a try. I personally have a small one, and the water that it holds will last me for an entire day on the river. It's not uncommon for me to cover 5 or 6 miles of river on an average fishing trip and my hydration pack always holds enough water to keep me more than hydrated. The best way to carry water while fishing is, without question, a hydration pack.

The Ultimate Guide to Making Outdoor Gear and Accessories: Complete, Step-by-Step Instructions for Making Knives, Bows and Arrows, Fishing Tackle, Decoys, Gun Cabinets, and Much More

When the weather is bad or it's the off-season, when their favorite sports are ruled out for whatever reason, many outdoorsmen turn their attention to making and repairing the staples of their sports. Whether it is a new gun stock, a specialized fishing lure, a duck or goose decoy, a backpack, or even a canoe, there is both pleasure and economy in fashioning it yourself. The pleasure is not only in the craftsmanship, but in actually using the gear in the field.
In THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO MAKING OUTDOOR GEAR AND ACCESSORIES, Monte Burch has included instructions, diagrams, and photographs for a variety of projects of interest to outdoorsmen, including guns and gun accessories, knives, archery tackle, bird and animal calls, waterfowl blinds of various sorts, tents, quail return pens, waterproof camera boxes, shooting benches, and gun and fishing tackle cabinets. Anyone with a rudimentary grasp of carpentry and handcrafting will find something here to his taste. Whether simply taking a couple of pieces of yardstick, a rubber band, and some household tape to make a varmint call, constructing a complicated recurve bow from a kit, or installing a fiberglass deck on a johnboat, there is something here for every outdoorsman who wants to say of a piece of sporting equipment: "I made it myself."

A Primer on Fly Fishing Reels

If you are getting into fly fishing, it is easy to lose yourself in the great debate on rods and flies. Not so fast. The reel is just as important, so here is a primer.

The fly fishing reel is a work of art. In fact, the first one was patented in 1874 by the epic master of fly fishing ? Charles Orvis. His family has been making fly fishing equipment in one form or another since them. As technology has improved dramatically, reels have also become more sophisticated. That being said, they still are comprised of some fairly basic components.

There is a major difference between fly reels and bait reels. Fly reels require more of a touch on your part. Casting is undertaken by laying the line out while controlling the line with your non-casting hand. It can take a while to get the hang of it, but the important thing to understand is the reel is not really a device that just lets you swing away like you would with a non-fly rod.

The original fly reels were really simple. They served only one real purpose ? to bring the line in. They offered no drag, which meant you could do some serious damage to your hands if you snagged a larger fish. A drag mechanism is used to slow or stop the line from feeding out when a fish takes the bait or, in this case, the fly.

As fly fishing has become more popular, people have started looking for bigger game. This created a problem since most fly reels were not really tailored to taking in a beast. If a large fish struck the fly, the line would real out without any way to stop it other than to hold the line or wear gloves. The new reels now incorporate breaking mechanisms that solve this problem. The mechanism create friction on the line to either slow down the line feed or stop it completely. These reels have to be used with specified rods. If you try to bolt one onto a traditional rod, they tend to snap since they are not really designed to carry such loads. At least mine have!

So, what type of reel should you use. It depends. Many feel the new reels with breaking mechanisms are a break from tradition. The answer really lies with you. Give both a try and make your own choice.

Can You Gain Anything From Fishing, Besides A Tasty Meal?

There are many people who find that fishing is more than just a hobby. It is a way of relaxing and enjoying what life really can give to you. The feeling of being outdoors is nothing short of perfect after a long week at the office. From kids to the elderly, fishing is just the perfect way for you to enjoy what nature has to offer. Leave stress at home and come into the world of fishing at least just for a bit.

Think that fishing is boring? If you picture fishing as a sport in which you'll just spend your day on the side of the lake dozing, you can be wrong. Although this is quite fine for some, most anglers are out there for the challenge. Not only do you have to have skill to cast and get the fish to take hold, but you have to reel him in and land him too. It can be quite a challenge.

How To Learn To Fish

There are several things that you can do to learn how to fish. And, none of them are hard to do. Here are some tips for you to take advantage of.

1. Get in some research. You'll find many websites online to help you learn about what's out there and how to get it. You can head to your library if you prefer too.

2. Learn about the skills you need in how to books. Subscribe to a fishing magazine and learn even when you can't get out to give it a try.

3. Do you know someone that loves to fish? Ask if you can go with them next time they head out. This is a great time for some bonding as well. Buy just the basics or even borrow them.

4. A great way to learn to fish is through the professionals in your area. You can find them through your local bait shop or look them up online. The Conservation or wildlife center in your area may be able to help you too.

Not only can you learn to fish anytime that you want to, in virtually every seasons, you can also learn to fish at day or at night. If you are after a certain species, find out when they feed. Make sure to know where they like to hide too. Some will bite virtually anytime of the day, in any season and with just about any bait. Others are picky. All of this knowledge isn't something that you need to know now though. You'll learn in your training as well as through experience.

One thing to note, though, is that you are likely going to need a fishing license. These can be obtained at the local fishing tackle location or through the Conservation and Wildlife Services in your area. Don't assume you can fish anywhere either. In private lake's, you'll need to get permission from the owner.

Fishing is something that you can quickly enjoy. Even if you have not real experience, you still can learn and enjoy all that it has to offer. So, instead of spending this weekend on the couch in front of another television program you have seen already, head out onto the lake and enjoy some quality time with fish.

A Guide To Deep Sea Fishing

Deep-sea fishing is fishing that involves trolling deep waters with large fishing tackle. Compared to other types of fishing, deep-sea fishing requires more fishing equipment including more line, rods and lures. Rods, reels, bait and tackles are the fishing equipment generally required for deep-sea fishing, and specialized fishing boats are needed for angling.

Basically, there are two types of deep sea fishing techniques - trolling and bottom fishing. The fishing technique is chosen, based on the location of the fish. Trolling techniques require keeping the fishing boat at a constant speed of six knots. The bait used is usually a fishing lure that is drawn on a line through the water slightly below the surface of the water. In bottom fishing, the boat anchors in deep water and hooks charged with lures are dropped to the bottom of the sea.

Seining, long lining and netting are some other techniques used in deep-sea fishing. Seining is an angling technique used in areas where there are large schools or groups of fish. As the name implies, long-lining gets its name from the length of the lines that are used. It is one of the popular methods of fishing used to attract fish. The bait is strung out on a long line held up by buoys. Netting techniques rely on nets that are set in shallow water around the coasts.

The Mississippi Gulf coast, San Diego coast, Cozumel coast and Cancun beaches are among the most popular destinations for deep-sea fishing. Even though deep-sea fishing is specifically for an experienced angler, it is one type of sports fishing that anyone can enjoy.

Refining Draggin' Techniques in Bass Fishing

Carolina Rigging is known as "Draggin'" in areas of Texas. Draggin' often includes bass fishing in weedy reservoirs, which take place during spring and fall-specifically the months of spring. Anglers join to fish in water at temperatures between 50 degrees and 70 degrees, and will often fish in areas where clear water present vegetation at the bottom of the lake. Anglers search for high water stages, which the depth is often five to fifteen feet deep. In addition, anglers join to fish in water clarity at 1 foot, and fish all through the day.

Carolina rigging became popular, as well as Draggin', when one man rated top 100 in the BASSMASTER tournament at Lake Sam Rayburn, Texas. Jim Nolan caught at this lake, 86 pounds 6 ounces; of bass, strictly using the lure anglers call the "Carolina-Rig Lizard."

Today, anglers around the world enjoy the newest Carolina-Rig inventions. The latest Carolina-Rigs comprise bullet sinkers, which does not ride the muzzle as that of Texas-Rig bait. Carolina-Rigs today produce better action, and the lures present slow anchors. Rather the lures or what anglers call presentations drop slowly onto the bottom of the water. Carolina-Rigged lures base its cover of density to consider burying in the bait.

In short, Carolina-Rigs received its name, since anglers discovered that in the bait, undersized Draggin' took less effort than that of other strategies used in bass fishing.

Carolina-Rigged lures were modified by Yelas. Yelas redesigned the lures so that its one once bullet sinker would promote easy casting. In addition, anglers are able to study the bottom of the waters with fewer hassles. Moreover, anglers can now fish at depths far surpassing the depths they could fish at one time. In summary, Carolina-Rigs will rest at the bottom of the lake even during motion.

Carolina-Rigged lures is a choice presentation over the Texas-Rig, yet some anglers still prefer Texas.

TIP: Great bass fishing areas include Potomac River, Sam Rayburn Lake, Lake Guntersville, Lake Seminole, etc. Visit Georgia, Texas, and Alabama, to discover the popular bass fishing spots.

Tip: Pre-spawning and Post-Spawning (spring) is the best time to enjoy bass fishing.

According to novice anglers, Draggin' in the fall should be conducted at reservoirs. It is advised that fishing be done at the time weeds are drawn, i.e. milfoil, hydrilla, etc, start to die and begin its spring growth. In short, fishing at the weed lines is recommended.

TIP: Fishing in the springtime is best if you start before fish begin spawning. During this time, novice anglers recommend that you search for opposite or the area where the water shapes a "V' at the rear end of the water, or the arms of the creek. Anglers tell us to search for Vs near weed lines since groups of fish gather around this area. Furthermore, anglers are wise to fish in the late hours of daylight.

Fishing near shallow brush, or areas where unwanted plants exist is best conducted in the morning. After dawn, it is recommended that you move to another area, specifically near brushy areas. The sun often migrate bass to these areas.

TIP: Draggin' during sleep hours is not optional, rather switch lures to the "Floating Minnow Plug," Tube Jig, or a light weighted lizard.

The best time for bass fishing is when fall starts to draw down. At this time of year, shallows are exposed, as well as the structure of weeds. Anglers tell us to search for areas where fall drawdown starts to reveal shallow areas, which are bare and presents deep weeds in the district.

Learn About The Hunting And Fishing

The great outdoors can be so relaxing. Please don't disagree if you've never given it a go. You definitely need to experience

Mother Nature before dismissing it as bothersome or annoying. It's imperative to get the full-on dose at the right time of

year. Of course the right season varies from person to person. For me it's fall, but for others it could be spring or winter

time. Yes, I did mention winter time. Although it may be chilly, you can appreciate the fact that mosquitoes and ticks won't

eat you alive like they will in the summer. So then there's camping, hunting and fishing. These are the epitome of outdoor

activities. Especially if you're heading up through the woods. It's not all about nature hikes and rock climbing.

The entire time I grew up in the rural area of Iowa, my father was an officer of hunting and fishing<a>. A game warden for short. Now, I know what you're thinking. Iowa has no rural area in particular;

the entire state is rural. In fact, it's one gargantuan corn field. This is what a buddy of mine thought anyway. Once I moved

to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, folks thought I was from the back woods. My buddy actually asked me if we were the only house

in Iowa. Wow, are people ever naive! Iowa is a state; not a corn field. Anyway, I certainly received my dose of hunting and

fishing while living in the heartland. Anything from deer hunting with a shotgun, to bass fishing on the Mississippi, to

turkey hunting with a long bow. I was able to experience a range of hunting and fishing activities. However, I did grow tired

of the hunting part. These days I no longer care to sit quietly in a tree stand and wait for a massive buck to stroll past.

Fishing on the other hand is still outstanding. I think it's the fresh trout that I love so much.

Definitely take the time to learn all about camping, hunting and fishing before tackling them on your own. Find out what

supplies are imperative and what seasons will work best. And always remember that with hunting and fishing comes

responsibilities. You can't simply run out in the woods and start gunning down deer like it's no big thing. There are rules

to this sport. Follow them respectfully and you'll have a great time.

Deep Sea Fishing Tips

Deep sea fishing is a wonderful and extremely enjoyable activity. Here are some tips that will make your salt water fishing adventure even better.

1. Watch the signs

If you see birds e.g. Seagulls that are feasting on small bait-type fishes, there are probably larger game-type fish below the surface of the water. Also, look for floating wood or debris. In most cases when you chance upon a large floating wood, you would find a large game fish in the area even encountering dolphin.

2. Stop, Snook and Listen

Fishing for snooks is quite similar as fishing for bass. Snooks like to be around ledges, posts and rocks.

3. Crabs for full moon

During full moons use soft crab imitations as bait. That's the time when crabs shed their shells and stripers come looking for them.

4. If you're looking for tunas, find the dolphins

Yellowfin tuna are usually found schooling with dolphins. So if you see a group of dolphins, chances are there are some tuna in the area.

5. Cut and Burn

If you have trouble cutting through a spiderwire braid, try using a lighter or a match.

6. Good Reef

The best place to fish is near reefs since big game fish feed on fish that live on reefs.

7. The Circle Hook

Use a circle hook if you would like a higher hook up ratio. These hooks guarantees more catch, because of the minute gap, and the reverse point. They are generally better for the fish since they do not hook in the gut just the lip.

8. Don't have sea legs

Watch the horizon and stay on deck. These would generally help you if you're having trouble with sea sickness: Stay away from the boat fumes, breathing it only exacerbates the problem.

9. Anchors away

When your anchor is stuck at the bottom, try attaching a float to it. Return after the tide has changed in direction. This should be enough to loosen the anchor.

10. Fish where the fish are

A lot of fisherman have the idea that they should be catching their live baits over the reefs before going to deep waters. If the live baits are not in the area you're planning to catch the larger games, then why would you come up with the idea that the large fish are there. Wouldn't they be in the area where the bait fish are?

4 Critical Fly Fishing Tips

Good Fly Presentation

Obviously, the goal when casting a fly is to present the fly to the fish in a realistic manner. You are trying to simulate nature here. If you are going for trout in a stream, for instance, this means a drag-free float of 36 inches over a precise spot that marks the window of a feeding fish.

Also remember that the Evening Secret (eveningsecretfishing/specialsecret/4_Fly_Fishing_Tips.php) will swarm fish to your spot consistantly, and help you catch more fish.

Never randomly cast you have got to pick a spot and hit it. Throw tight loops that put the fly on target. One important method that can be used is to overcast the target and stop the line short while it is in the air. The fly should come back to you and fall on the water with slack in the leader.

The best trout fishermen fish with only 30 to 35 feet of line, but make up for this with accurate casting. They read waters will and put the fly in the p ay zone time after time. One of the most important thins they do is to recognize that presentation and approach are much more important than pattern.

It is different for bass. Whether a surface bug or a streamer, the offering must move past a spot where a bass is apt to hold. As the boat drifts, it is important to pick a precise time to shoot a cast to the target. Too soon or too late, and the fly wont be in the right spot. This is where the double haul form of casting becomes essential. It generates line speed and enables the caster to pick 30 or 40 feet of line off the water and shoot another without false casting.

When bassing, make your presentation, retrieve 10 to 20 feet, pick up, and cast again without the need to false cast. After each one, drop the rod type and keep the butt of the rod near your belt buckle with the tip-top of the rod pointing at the line. A simple lift will let you execute the next pickup or strike a fish.

Leader Connection

If you are a fly caster, you know that a smooth connection between the leader and fly line is important in presentation. The best way to do this is to nail-knot a six-inch piece of 25-30 pound leader material to the end of the fly line. A loop like those found on snelled hooks is then tied into the opposite end. The connecting leader must also have a loop.

Connecting the leader itself is done by passing the loop attached to the fly line through the loop on the leader; reaching through the fly line loop. Next, grab the butt section of the leader and pull the leader up through until the tippet passes the loop. Last, just pull the loops together by tugging on the fly line and the butt section in opposite directions.

Strategy

If you are every in a situation where see large brown trout in open water and hold, your best bet is to use a No. 12 Cinnamon Ant and sink it. If this doesnt work, move to the No.16 Adams fly. Still nothing? Switch to the No. 20 Black Ant. Last-ditch effort would be to use a 3X tippet and use a No. 6 nymph or streamer.

Typically the bigger trout will leave small morsels to the small guys, preferring the bigger bites that are easy to get. They are very economical feeders.

High Rider Dry Flys

If your best dry-fly patterns are failing you, it may be time to switch to spiders and variants. Many times a spider or variant will bring trout to the surface, then you can switch back to a conventional dry fly.

These spiders and variants will delicately drop to the water, usually somersaulting or jumping after touching it. Fish find this very alluring.

High riding is another attribute of these flies. When tied properly, their hackles support the hook above the waters surface, thus imitating a natural fly much more closely than the ordinary fly does.

Fishing for Fortunes. Scam!

Spelt phishing, but pronounced as above, this despicable act is an effort to batter your bankroll or commandeer your cash.
To put it simply, you can get emails from account administrators, which strongly urge you to update details attached to that account.
The issue, though, is the pretence of such mail.

You may not even have such an account as referenced.
It doesnt come from the account provider.
It can use false S.S.L. references, to present an illusion of trust and security.
It can prompt for immediate action on your part, alleging false log-ins by persons unknown, and from countries unknown. If action is not taken, they can impress on you, that the account will be suspended or closed. Indeed, anything likely to work can be fabricated, to get you to the webpage suggested in the link or hyperlink. Note the word suggested.
Likenesses to company logos are used to re-enforce credibility.

In fact, these phishing attempts actually look pretty good or realistic. So much so that any qualms of guilt or stupidity, experienced by a conned party are groundless.

Experience, specific education or forewarning, is all that prevents this type of charade from widening its base of victims.

The goal is to get you to type in your details, complete with credit card number and the rest can be guessed.
Some damage is also absorbed by the organisation or company being misrepresented and they can do little about it but warn their customers what to watch out for, and issue security instructions. Indeed, it is from accounts at reputable companies that most passing trade learn the correct or most secure procedures. It is therefore important to read any material that they offer.

Generally though, reputable companies with a mind to preserve their integrity will tell you to log-in at their main page and proceed from there. Not through a link specific to your account!

Hyperlinks can mask the true domain that youll be brought to, with the text linked to www.anydomaindotcom (example, only), a replica or fake page. Only going to secure pages where one believes that https will do it, will always help but wholly unreliable. The s is an indication of a secure page, but are you at the right domain?
Place your mouse over the link and the domain attached to such a link, should show itself. Viewing the source code is another way but some knowledge of it is necessary.

Another ploy, sometimes deliberate and sometimes convenient, is inserting a reference to the legitimate company anywhere after the domain name. Ex. https://www.anydomaindotcom/ebay/aagle/. Unwary victims may overlook the fact that ebay is not the domain, but see it anyway as a directory or file name. Anyone, anywhere can have a file or directory named like that of a company.

To make matters somewhat worse from an easy to identify viewpoint, the source code of the link can be represented as an I.P. address rather than its named counterpart. There are some tools that you can use at http://centralops/co/ which you can use to type in the I.P. address and cross reference it with the official account domain presented in the e-mail, or web page for that matter. Opening a second window for investigative purposes and re-sizing both to be side by side can be revealing, and comparisons be made between the alleged source and that of the source code.
www.ebay can be put in one window and www.suspiciouslyspurious can be put in the other. NOTE; you should be checking domains and ignoring everything that comes after the forward slash at the end of the domain.
A similar test can be done for email viruses, where suspicious email addresses can be searched for some degree of authenticity.

If you are phished, try to learn as much as possible about it as phishing attempts and email viruses have some aspects in common.
Incorrect spelling is one of them. You must understand that the authors can be from anywhere and not necessarily have degrees in English. Legitimate companies can also be from anywhere, with different primary languages, but do perfect their spellings and general grammar.

Attention to upper and lower case can be another giveaway. This is especially true where particular portions of the text are the design of the author, and not just copied and pasted. Typically, these portions are customised to be customer specific in a general sense, and fonts may even be different or out of place. Such special additions are to strengthen the sense of urgency and call to action.

Should you be the recipient of phishy mail, you can forward it to spam@uce.gov

The Excitement of Trout Fishing

The thrill of trout fishing! It is the best, isnt it? No matter where you plan to go trout fishing or if you plan on catching brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout or cutthroat trout, you know you are more than likely going to enjoy your trip. The sport is a sport of its own, set aside from other types of fishing. Some believe trout fishing is the most difficult of any type of fishing. Regardless of if you believe this or not, there are many reasons to love trout fishing.

To begin with, trout fishing is all about being smarter than the fish! You need to know how that fish is going to react long before it does. How do you know this and do this? For one, you need to know about the animal itself. Trout are very smart animals. They know that they are prey, so they will avoid anything they think is going to harm them. So, you, the fisherman, need to be smarter and catch the trout unaware. That is why when you are trout fishing, you will more then likely cast from quite a distance. Trout come up to the surface to feed. If they lay their eyes on you, they are gone. No hope of catching it. Instead, casting from a distance is important to keep you out of the picture.

Trout fishing is also a demanding sport because it takes knowledge. Its not enough to know about how the trout react, but you have to know what equipment you need. When you go to your local sporting goods stores or tackle shop, you will find that there is often a large line of products designed for trout fishing. The lure that you use will need to be something that will enter the water unnoticeable and without causing a splash. The trout fishing line you use will need to be pretty much clear, but strong. There is much more equipment specific things you can invest in to help you with your trout fishing. Simply look around the store to see what jumps out at you!

Some of the best things about trout fishing are the trips you can enjoy. You can plan a trout fishing trip to last a day, a weekend, or a week. You can book your trout fishing trip to be in a nearby lake or river. But, think about booking a trout fishing trip out of the country! If not, perhaps you would like to consider an out of state trout fishing trip. Not only are these the best ways to enjoy the sport and all types of trout fishing, but you get to see some of the most beautiful places in the world!

It goes without saying that trout fishing is one of the best sports out there. If you are a beginner looking to learn, the best knowledge you can obtain is experience. Yes, you can purchase all that equipment, but nothing will teach and help you more then experience in trout fishing.

We're small, but our products are already making more than a few ripples. By rethinking product design from the ground-up, we've created an impressive line up of fly-fishing storage products and accessories that look great, and outperform anything else available on the market. We started with a few simple ideas: design and create a tippet dispenser, develop an innovative cutting tool or clipper, and reshape the fly storage category with the creation of a series of soft-sided cases and chest packs. Our simple ideas turned into very complex design obstacles and challenged some of the best industrial designers in the country, yet we've succeeded with our vision and created a line of revolutionary accessory products that will stand the test of time. Fishpond is all about design and function . We are the first to bring a functional tippet dispenser to the market-one that stores, straightens, cuts and dispenses tippet material directly from most commercially manufactured freshwater tippet spools. Look for our saltwater version in the coming months. Tired of plastic and aluminum fly boxes? We've also created an entirely new product category with our molded nylon and soft-sided fly cases. With ease-of-use in mind, brightly colored jacquard webbing on the spine serves as a hand strap to securely hold the case while on the water. This gives our cases their signature style and unparalleled function. To keep us on the cutting edge, we're redefining the accessory segment with revolutionary products like our patented, ergonomically designed Titanium Clippers with optional integrated retractor that make competitive tools based on the traditional nail clipper obsolete. Our research has told us that fly-fishing enthusiasts want to lighten their load. In response to this trend, fishpond has created two new chest/fanny packs that can complement or replace the traditional fishing vest. Each product has our signature zip-down "fly bench" with a replaceable foam fly page that serves as a convenient fly changing station and work area. At fishpond, we're committed to staying on the leading edge of fly-fishing product design, and we're already hard at work on the next generation of new products to enhance our position as an emerging leader with our dealer-partners and customers. Fishpond is connected to the past and it's timeless traditions, but its focus is on making designs for the fly-fishing enthusiast that will endure the future. We're committed to our dealer-partners and consumers at every level, and want to earn your trust and support by offering quality service, delivery and creativity.

The Basic Fishing Supplies

Fishing is a nature-oriented sport that allows you to relax. Many people want to experience fishing, but are unable to buy the appropriate supplies for their adventure.

There are many fishing stores around, but majority of the stores try to sell unnecessary fishing supplies to gain more from the innocence of the fishing novice. Here are some of the basic fishing supplies you need for any kind of fishing in any location.

1) Hooks - In a variety of shape and sizes, these are one of the most important parts of your fishing gear. Fishing hooks are affordable, so you could stock an assortment of hooks for each kind of fishing. Majority of hooks are shaped like a letter "J."

2) Rigs - These are used for catching different kinds and species of fish. The two most common rigs are the Bobber and Crappie. Bobber rigs are suitable for catching Bluegills and are best for beginners.

3) Sinkers - As the name suggests, this fishing equipment is used to cast lighter lures and to quickly drop the bait to the bottom of the water where the fish are located. Together with the bobbers, the sinkers are used to hold your line at any given point.

In fishing stores, you will find numerous variations of sinkers that come in different sizes, weights, and shapes. The current speed and the water depth would determine the weight of the sinkers you will need for your fishing trip.

4) Bobber - It is also called a cork or a float. The bobber's purpose is to let you know when a fish bites your bait. The commonly used bobbers are pencil, slip bobbers and buttons. They come in different sizes to fit all kinds of baits and sinkers. The best bobbers are those that are smaller. The wind would blow the bobber back to you if it were too light and would scare the fishes off when it is too big.

5) Swivels - This kind of fishing equipment is used when you are fishing with bait such as a spinner or a minnow. These kinds of bait tend to twist and turn, which would likely your line deformed. By using the swivel and connecting it between your line and bait, it would allow the lure to spin around without tangling up the line. Swivels are affordable and come in different sizes to fit the bait and hooks you use.

Other supplies are the tackle box and your bait. The bait would vary depending on the kind of fishing you wish to perform.

Now that you know the basics, you could easily enjoy your fishing trip affordably and safely.

Fly Fishing Equipment

Fly Fishing Equipment

Fly rods

Fly fishing rods come in different sizes and with varying degrees of flexibility. It is very important that the fly fishing line used on a rod is correctly matched to the rod. If the line is too thick and heavy for a lighter rod, the casting action will be negatively affected or worse yet the rod could suffer permanent damage due to the stress. Rods are marked in sizes, from the lightest #0 or #1 to the stronger and much heavier #16 which is used predominantly for game fishing at sea.

There is a small margin of variance which can be considered when matching a line to your rod. It is usually safe to use a line rated for a rod either one size heavier or lighter than your own. In other words, if you have a 7wt fly fishing rod, it is safe to use a 6wt or 8wt line.

There is a difference between fresh water fly fishing rods and their saltwater counterparts. Saltwater rods generally need to handle stronger fish and need to cast heavier flies over longer distances; this means that the rods need to be heavier and stronger with a thicker line. Fighting butt reel seats and anti-corrosion fittings are necessary to ensure a longer life for these rods in a salty environment.

Fly fishing reels

These reels are sometimes referred to as casting reels. In fly fishing casting the line is pulled from the reel by hand as the other hand casts. The reel then comes into play when pulling the line back in with the rotation of the reel. As fly fishing has become more popular in conditions which place more demand upon the fly fisherman and his equipment, the technological enhancement of equipment has had to keep pace. These days there are specially produced reels for saltwater fly fishing and for those who are after larger fish.

Increased speeds in retrieving line as well as a reduction in friction are characteristics of newer reels. Another innovation is the use of disc drags which allow for smoother action and the use of much lighter tippets.

Fly fishing flies

Flies are extremely light and are attached to a piece of line known as a leader, which narrows from where it is attached to the line towards the fly end, called the tippet. The leader can vary in length between three to twelve feet. Sizes of flies vary greatly, size #2 being a larger fly and #22 being a rather small fly.

The Things You Won't Look Out For (But Should) When Night Fishing

5 Things To Be Careful of When Night Fishing

Night fishing can be some of the most exciting, rewarding and fulfilling fishing you ever do in your life. It can also be the most dangerous fishing you ever do as well. Here are 5 quick things to look out for and be careful of next time you venture out...

(By the way, make sure to check out the Evening Secret which has been a great addition many night fishing arsenals) (eveningsecretfishing/specialsecret/obstacle.php)

One - Trees can make your trip miserable.

We used to fish at the same lake every weekend for 6 months during the day. I knew this lake like the back of my hand, so it seemed anyway. One Saturday night, we decided to try our luck night fishing on this lake.

Once we got out in the water, we were catching fish like no other. Maybe it was carelessness or the adrenaline flowing, but we were whipping around the lake to get to our favorite daytime spot, anxious to see if we would get the same results.

What appeared to be open water was actually a graveyard of fallen trees and submerged tree stumps. I'm sure you can imagine the damage the boat received. Just goes to show you the waters are completely different at night than in the day. Sure we knew the water had trees throughout, but they were much easier to see during the day.

Two - Other boaters

While you have control over the lights on your boat, you don't have that luxury with other boats on the water with you. Some people do not abide by the law and they choose to not use their lights when night fishing for whatever reason. Seeing another boat at night when they do not have their lights on can be a challenge.

Three - Insects

Big fish aren't the only things that come out at night. Expect to find more mosquitoes and black flies at night, eager to snack on your skin. Always bring some bug spray (deet) with you.

Four - Wildlife

Like insects, you may find an increase in animals out at night with you. One in particular are snakes. For some reason, we come across more snakes at night than during the day.

Five - Fishing with others

It is hard to see your partner's rod when he is casting at night. Many times have I been snagged by a lure being casted by my partner. Keep an eye out for your co-fishermen when you cast your line.

Fishing for Amber

Fishing for Amber

Fishing for Amber dazzles with its weave of narratives and the sheer pleasure taken in unwinding the three narrative strands: ribald telling of tales from Ovid's Metamorphoses, dark and disturbing Irish fairy stories, and fantastic tales of 17th-century Dutch painting. The universal theme is that of transmutation and the power of art—of light captured on canvas, experience immortalized in narrative. Stories branch infinitely into other stories, each connecting, and each fishing for the truth. The central image of amber, of light or creatures captured in it, transformed by it, is sustained throughout the book. Ciaran Carson lives in Belfast. He has been awarded the Irish Times Irish Literature Prize and the T. S. Eliot Poetry Prize, as well as the Yorkshire Post Prize for The Star Factory.

Offshore Fishing: A Fuelish Pleasure? (The Tampa Tribune)

While federal and state fishery regulators conjure up management schemes to maintain certain spawning potential ratios, the rapidly increasing price of fuel has dramatically changed that equation. HOT SPOTS: What's biting and where (Bradenton Herald)

Fri, 01 Aug 2008 04:59:24 GMT
With scorching water temperatures sapping fish into a non-feeding mood, think of fishing at times and in spots with cool water. Capt. Ray Markham had noticed that fish in general are lying flat on the bottom, and up many canals around Terra Ceia Bay, the Manatee River and Warner's Bayou, where small fissures, or freshwater springs, are leaking cooler water.

Fri, 01 Aug 2008 04:25:33 GMT
While federal and state fishery regulators conjure up management schemes to maintain certain spawning potential ratios, the rapidly increasing price of fuel has dramatically changed that equation. This is a pivotal moment in the history of Florida fishing, as recreational boat owners, charter skippers and the commercial fishing industry must evaluate the serious cost/benefit ratio of offshore ...
